Funding
Cursor, Inc. was first incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of Minnesota in 1998. For approximately its first three years it functioned via the volunteer efforts of the two founders, Rob Levine and Mike Tronnes, as well as from editorial contributions from various writers and editors.
In 2000 Cursor re-incorporated as an IRS 501(c)(3) - a tax-exempt charity whereby contributors can deduct their contributions to Cursor from their taxable incomes. In early 2002 Cursor, Inc. received a $25,000 grant from The Florence and John Schumann Foundation, whose president is Bill Moyers. Since that time Cursor has used that money to pay salaries, pay for web hosting, and develop other modes to raise money and further the purposes of Cursor, Inc., including accepting online contributions. Cursor, Inc. has also received other, smaller contributions from individuals, and has received money as honoraria for the appearance of Cursor principals at university classes.
