Cursor, Inc.

Cursor, Inc., is a Minneapolis-based 501(c)(3) that provides context and transparency to the mainstream media's product through the publication of two Web sites: Cursor, a news and opinion digest that combines mainstream and alternative media to contextualize issues and critique reporting, and Media Transparency, which tracks conservative philanthropies, the organizations and people they fund, and their influence in the media.

Cursor, Inc. reaches an audience of media professionals, students, researchers and general readers who want alternative, progressive and/or critical commentary and news. Their primary characteristics are a high level of education and a dedication to social and political change through media activism.

Since 2001, when Cursor and Media Transparency became a full-time pursuit for its two principals, each site has become an important part of the progressive media landscape, carving out a niche that is recognized as unique by a core group of readers and other media outlets that have both utilized the sites and trumpeted their quality to others.

The crucial next step for Cursor, Inc. is to institutionalize the organization by putting it on solid financial footing, and build on what it has accomplished by expanding the total audience and increasing the impact of its editorial product. The key to this transition is a larger and more consistent funding base.
